Virginia Couch

Virginia Couch

4/7/1936 — 7/16/2016

Virginia I. (Willey) Couch, 80, of Lewiston, passed away Saturday morning, July 16, 2016, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Lewiston.

Virginia was born to James and Grace Marie Willey on April 7, 1936, in Brown County, Ohio, near Mount Orab. She was part of a large family of 10 siblings, Merrill, Miriam, Betty, Wanda, Ruth, Francis, Carol, Opal, Owen and William. As with all the members of her family, Virginia was more commonly known by her nickname, Gennie.

When she was young and waiting tables at a local restaurant, she caught the eye of a young gentleman, Carl Couch. The two were married Aug. 18, 1956, in Richmond, Ind., after a year of courtship, and they were only separated by Carl's passing in 2007. Virginia and Carl had that special unwavering love for each other and were a great example to others in their life.

Gennie was a petite lady but full of sass who kept everyone on their toes. She had a huge heart and took you in like you were her own. You would often find Gennie crocheting blankets for her friends or grandchildren. She loved visits from her family and especially her great-grandchildren. Holding large family dinners was particularly one of her favorite ways to spend time. She always had more guests than she had seats, but everyone felt at home. She loved Christmas time and especially when she was able to play Santa to all her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A Christmas at the Couch household was beyond memorable; the volume of noise and wrapping paper was always impressive.

Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Couch; her parents, James and Grace Willey; brother Merrill Willey; and sister Betty Bowe.

Virginia is survived by daughters Edna Stout of Lewiston, Glenda (Kim) Morlan of Lewiston and Cindy (Craig) Plummer of Lewiston; son Carl E. Couch II of Clarkston; daughter Leslie (Rex) Knapik of Troy; and her remaining brothers and sisters. Virginia is also survived by grandchildren Glen (Katie) Seekins of Lewiston, Fawnda Bolin of Lewiston, Lance (Sherra) Morlan of Grand Junction, Colo., Scott Morlan of Gardnerville, Nev., Sara (Harry) Booth of Lewiston, Logan Knapik of Moscow, Kara (Dion) Mobley of Moscow, Chanda Knapik of Troy, Daunte Knapik of Troy and Chandler (Sarrah) Eberhardt of Lewiston; and multiple great-grandchildren.
