Sheldon Russel

Sheldon Wesley Russell, 85, of Lewiston and formerly of Moscow, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2025, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Lewiston.

He was born Sept. 16, 1940, in Moscow, to Gilbert E. and Lelia Buckbee Russell. Sheldon attended school in Moscow. He worked at Moscow IGA Foods and Moscow Farm Store. He married Elaine Carbuhn on Oct. 8, 1960, at Genesee. In 1963, he began work for the city of Genesee. In 1967, he began employment with the Moscow Police Department; in April 1974, he was presented with the Moscow Jaycee Annual Distinguished Award for services as a police officer in the community; and he retired in 1996 as a sergeant. From 1996 to 2004, he was a federal court security officer at Moscow.

In 2006, Sheldon and Elaine moved to Lewiston. They enjoyed motorcycling, boating and four-wheeling. Sheldon and Elaine are members of the Orchards Community Church in Lewiston.

He is survived by his wife, Elaine, and sons Brent (Lethea), Monte (Joely) and grandchildren Jacob Wesley and Savanna Jean Russell, all of Genesee. He is survived by one sister, Barbara Means, of Moscow. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Dellas “Clem” Russell and his sister, Ora Mae Schultz.

Per Sheldon’s request there will be no service and he will be cremated and buried at the Moscow Cemetery in a private family graveside service in the spring.
