Ronalde E. "Ron" Lohman

3/22/1937 — 1/11/2023

Ronald E. “Ron” Lohman, 85, of Lewiston and formerly of the Cameron-Southwick area, died Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2023, at 2:15 a.m., at Royal Plaza Health and Rehabilitation in Lewiston.

Ron was born March 22, 1937, near Cameron, to Ervin and Margot “Connie” Lohman joining a brother, Gary, at the family home.

In 1940, the family moved to a farm between Southwick and Cameron, where Ron’s dad continued farming. Ron attended grade school at both Southwick and Leland. He attended high school at Kendrick, graduating in 1955. While in high school he worked for local farmers, Gordon Peters, Stan Hepler, Willard Schoeffler and enjoyed helping Fred Schoeffler feed and take care of the cattle and horses.

While in high school, he really enjoyed playing football and baseball, and he also played basketball. He always said his favorite teacher was Ervin McGeachy. After graduating, he again worked for Stan Hepler farming and helping his dad on the farm. He later worked for Nez Perce County, making roads, working on the rock crusher and construction work in Montana.

In the fall of 1961, Ron was drafted into the U.S. Army, being stationed at Fort Lewis, Wash., and Death Valley, Calif., where he was a rifle sharpshooter, receiving a State of Idaho Service Ribbon and State of Idaho Berlin Crisis Ribbon. He was honorably discharged on March 15, 1964.

Ron was also a trophy trapshooter, reloading his own shells.

Ron really enjoyed taking his pack horses to hunting camp at Junction, Idaho, with family and friends, where he killed his share of elk. Ron loved not only to hunt but go to the different lakes to camp and fish for trout. After he retired, Ron and Chuck Cuddy enjoyed camping and fishing on the North Fork.

In April of 1981, Ron married his one true love, Sonja Swanson Marshall, and gained four children whom he dearly loved. Ron and Sonja rented more land and continued farming until 2007 when he officially retired and began selling off his machinery and helping to overhaul diesel engines for others.

Ron is survived by his wife, Sonja, and his children Shawni Lohman (Dan Goodrich) of Pierce, Joel Marshall of Boise, Gina Frazier (Kelly) of Kooskia, and Ginger Matthes (Jesse) of Weippe; 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; his sister Sharon Parks (Lyle) of Clarkston; four nieces, Vicki Hankins (David) and Wendy Lohman of Spokane; Teri Burns (Rusty) of Jackson, Ala., and Jeri Folland of Victor, Idaho.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ervin and Connie, and brother Gary Lohman of Lewiston, and many other family members.

A celebration of life will be held starting with a video presentation at 11 a.m., Saturday, June 17, at the Southwick Community Center in Southwick. Lunch will be served at noon by Bun Bun’s of Kendrick, with inurnment following at 2 p.m., at the Pine Hills Cemetery in Southwick. Ron was a wonderful storyteller; bring your favorite stories to share.
