Richard O. Gladish passed away peacefully Monday, Aug. 20, 2018, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, at age 86.

Dick was born Sept. 22, 1931, in Colfax, to Oscar Elijah and Janet (Riley) Gladish. He grew up in Pullman and graduated from Pullman High School in 1950. Dick went on to attend Washington State College through 1953. He married Carol Ledeman in 1955, and they divorced in 1980. In 1985, he and Susan Mayer were married in Buckley, Wash.

After taking a class at WSC in flying, Dick enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served for eight years. After his honorable discharge, he flew for Northwest Airlines from 1959 to 1991. After retiring, he built his own airplane and enjoyed woodworking in his shop.

Dick moved with Susan to Asotin in 1997. They enjoyed many years of “trailering” with dear friends.

Dick played baritone in the Lewis-Clark Community Concert Band, continuing his lifelong love of music. He also was a member of the National Rifle Association, the Experimental Aircraft Association and the Lewiston Gun Club, in addition the Lewis-Clark Community Concert Band.

Dick is survived by his wife, Susan Gladish, at their home in Asotin; daughters Karen Durgin and Nancy Schatzberg; brothers Wendell (Amy) Gladish and Charles (Sonia) Gladish; grandchildren Sam, Sarah (Brent), Hailey (Preston) and Joseph; and great-grandson William; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Mary Elizabeth “Betty” Porter.

A celebration of life and birthday will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, at the Quality Inn, 700 Port Drive, Clarkston. The Revs. David and Donna McClure and pastor Joel Solliday will officiate. A reception will follow the service at the Quality Inn. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, any memorial donations be made to Avalon Progressive Care in Clarkston or SJRMC Family Hospice in Lewiston.
