Nita Mauch

Nita Mauch

12/24/2025 — 5/23/1949

Nita Darlene Schierman Mauch, of Clarkston, went to heaven on Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2025, after a short battle with cancer.

Nita was born on May 23, 1949, in Colfax, to Ellen Roberts Schierman and Raymond Wilbert Schierman. She graduated from Colfax High School in 1967 and promptly joined the United States Army. She was stationed at Simmons Army Airfield at Fort Bragg, N.C., where she worked as an air traffic controller. She returned to Colfax in 1970.

On Jan. 21, 1972, Nita married the love of her life, Gerald Allen Mauch. Together they raised two daughters, Dawn and Geri, and built a life in Clarkston. They were married for 50 years before Gerald’s passing in 2022.

Nita spent over 20 years working for Asotin County as a corrections officer. After leaving the county, she went on to work at Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories until her retirement.

When she wasn’t working, Nita stayed busy. In the 1990s, she was a member of the Lewis-Clark Kennel Club, showing her Pomeranians and training her cocker spaniel in obedience, earning numerous awards. She enjoyed spending time in her woodworking shop building furniture, watching her fish swim around their tanks, or at Taco Time having lunch with family or friends.

In 1997, Gerald and Nita purchased five acres on the outskirts of Clarkston and built their forever home. Nita loved animals and their little farm became home to many animals over the years. Every animal had a name as they were part of the family. Over the years, the farm included cows, horses, miniature donkeys, miniature pigs, goats, chickens, ducks, geese, turkeys, dogs and cats. Nita also enjoyed planting trees and flowers and placing solar lights throughout the yard, which turned on every night like clockwork.

Nita is survived by her daughters, Dawn (Terry) Taylor and Geri Mauch; her granddaughters, Emma Taylor and Megan Taylor; and her stepchildren, Angela Mauch, Terrie Karr and Mark Mauch.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Allen Mauch; her father, Raymond Wilbert Schierman; her mother, Ellen Roberts Schierman; and her brother, Daniel Schierman.

The family would like to thank all of the special angels at Elite Hospice for their exceptional care, guidance and support during Nita’s final days. They handled her with compassion, patience, and the kindness she deserved.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, at CrossPoint Alliance Church at 1300 Powers Ave., Lewiston.
