Mildred Timme

Mildred Timme

8/16/1932 — 6/14/2017

Mildred Ann Christina Timme, 84, passed away Wednesday, June 14, 2017, in Lewiston.

Mildred, more affectionately known as Millie, Aunt Mil and Nanny, was born Aug. 16, 1932, in Gifford, to Henry C. Timme and Anna D. Lindemann Timme.

Mildred grew up on the Timme farm with her brothers and sisters: Adolph, Henry, Carl, Malinde and Erma. She attended Fairview School, Gifford High and graduated from Reubens High School in 1950. She was a member of Good Hope Lutheran and Grace Lutheran churches.

In May of 1951, Mildred moved to Lewiston to begin her working career as a telephone operator with Pacific Northwest Bell. She retired Oct. 1, 1981, with 30 years of service. She loved her job and made many lifelong friends. Her words about retirement: "My lifestyle really has not changed much since retirement. I'm still taking care of my children, working on my scrap books and photo albums. I do yard work, take care of my flowers and garden. In 1988 I started putting together family history books. I have put 32 books together."

One of her greatest joys was being a mother and grandmother. Nanny devoted her life to raising her daughter and helping with her three grandchildren. Her deep sense of commitment to all in her family was amazing to watch and receive. She was a devoted Atlanta Braves fan and kept stats on the game as she sidelined via the TV. She journaled about her daily life down to the minute of time. We called her the "neighborhood watchdog," keeping tabs on everyone and the happenings around her. Peeping out her windows was the norm. She loved taking photos, but a photographer she was not, as she held closed one eye trying to capture the shot.

Mildred is survived by her daughter, Deanna Durbin and Kent Petersen; her sister, Erma Huff; Nanny's grandchildren are Jace Reitan, Cenone and Andy Johnson, Shay and Gary Burleson; and she has two great-granddaughters, Nora and Hattie Johnson. Let's not forget the grand-pup, Marley. Aunt Mil's nieces and nephews are Linda Timme, Brenda Timme, Theresa Holcomb, Louie Timme, Debi Kinzer, Denise Chaffins, Carla Davick, Dave Timme, Kevin Timme, Linda Dailene Anderson, David Jacobs, Donna Jacobs, Dee Jacobs, Darby Jacobs, Dean Jacobs, Susan Wardrip, Randy Timme and John Timme. She also had a very special relationship with her great-niece, Jade Timme-Freeman.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister Malinde Jacobs; and brothers Adolph, Henry and Carl Timme. Deanna's father Frederick P. Aichlmayr passed away in June 2014.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, June 23, at Malcom's Brower-Wann Funeral Home, 1711 18th St., Lewiston. A family graveside service to follow at Good Hope Lutheran Cemetery in Gifford.

Nanny's favorite color was purple.
