Matthew Thomasson

Matthew Thomasson

12/27/1968 — 4/17/2019

Matthew Ray Thomasson passed away Wednesday, April 17, 2019, of a heart attack.

He was born Dec. 27, 1968, in Spokane. He was adopted by Judith Ann and Ray Eldon Thomasson shortly after. They were amazing parents who gave Matt a wonderful childhood full of love, travels and a donkey or two. Matt attended Orchards and Centennial Elementary Schools, Sacajawea Junior High and graduated from Lewiston High School in 1987. Who would have thought that his first-grade teacher would become his mother-in-law years later? And that his best friend from fifth grade would be his best friend forever?

In 1991, Matt and Reca Meshishnek started dating and got engaged just six months later; they knew from the beginning they were meant to be. They married on April 24, 1993. In 1998, they welcomed their first child, Andrew James. In 2002, their family was complete when Joseph Ray was born. Matt was so very proud of his boys and it was not uncommon for him to weep with pride because of something they accomplished or did.

Matt was an incredibly hard worker. He worked in sales much of his life and loved helping people find their perfect motorcycle, four-wheeler, car, boat or RV. Customer service was always the most important thing to Matt when he was selling. Many of Matt’s customers have become friends, and many of his co-workers have become family.

Matt’s parents were taken from him far too soon, but he handled it with amazing strength and determination to live life and not let that tragedy define him. He always said that his parents would have wanted him to live his life and not sit around feeling sorry for himself. He was an inspiration to all who knew him.

Matt was an incredibly caring person who would give you the shirt off his back and help anyone at anytime. He loved to hunt and fish, be in the woods and spend time with his family. He loved cooking, smoking cheese and meat, and he loved to share what he made with people. His boys loved being right there with him, learning from and spending time with their dad. The latest family venture was buying a mini donut and espresso truck to take to various events; he was so very excited for this new opportunity. Matt loved joking around with people and pulling pranks. If Matt teased you, he cared about you!

Matt is survived by his wife, Reca Thomasson, of Lewiston; sons Andrew and Joseph Thomasson of Lewiston; in-laws Jim and Linda Meshishnek of Lewiston; sister- and brother-in-law Tara and Jesse Cobley of Lewiston; and nephews Jayden and Jameson Cobley of Lewiston. He is also survived by so many dear friends who loved him and will miss him dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents, Judith Ann and Ray Eldon Thomasson; and grandparents Malcolm and Lois Frost and Carl and Elizabeth Thomasson.

A celebration of life will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, April 23, in the Warrior Room in the Red Lion Hotel. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Thomasson Benefit Fund at P1FCU, in support of his boys.

He lived a lot of life in his 50 years, but it was not nearly long enough for all who loved him.
