Marlene McAtty

12/31/1932 — 4/21/2017

Marlene H. McAtty, 84, of Lapwai, left to be with her maker on Friday, April 21, 2017. Marlene was born Dec. 31, 1932, to the late Lillian C. Smith and Louie Rickman.

Marlene was a homecoming queen her senior year; she was an avid basketball player and a majorette throughout her high school years. She graduated from Lapwai High School in May of 1951. She married the late Cecil McAtty Sr. in 1960, until he passed in June of 1970.

Marlene was a housewife and devoted Christian and a woman of great faith. Throughout Marlene’s life she traveled to many church camp meetings and revivals. She enjoyed planting indoor and outdoor plants and flowers. She enjoyed rides in the mountains and on special occasions she enjoyed dining out. She especially loved summer days with bonfires, roasting hot dogs and her smores. She loved all her grandchildren and she called them her pills that brought her great happiness.

Marlene is survived by her daughters, Marisa Rickman, Lita Federico and son Cecil McAtty Jr.; sisters June Stewart, Vicki Johnson, Teri Scott and brother Woodrow Smith; grandchildren include granddaughters Angel, April and Cecilia McAtty, and grandsons Anthony Broncheau, Joseph Pike Jr., Joshua Pike and Lewis Lawrence; many great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil McAtty Sr., mother Lillian C. Smith, father Louie Rickman, step-father Samuel Smith and son Gabriel McAtty.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday at the Pi-nee-waus Community Center, Main Street South, Lapwai, officiated by Pastor Antonio Smith of the N.A.M.E. Church, followed by burial at the Spalding Park Cemetery.

The family would like to give thanks to the Life Care Center staff and St. Joseph Hospital Third Floor PCU staff for the loving care they showed our mother, grandmother and sister during her last moments in life.

Funeral arrangements were made by Malcom’s Brower-Wann Funeral Home.
