Marie Webb

Marie Webb

1/8/1913 — 4/27/2015

As she wished, Marie Marjorie Caroline Webb passed from her life in Lewiston while in her beloved home with her daughter's arms around her Monday, April 27, 2015. Surrounded by her closest friends and family, she enjoyed each conversation as she prepared for her passing. Marie was proud of her career as a teacher, first in Reubens, where she met and married the love of her life, John Lee Webb, on June 15, 1936. Lee was sadly taken from Marie on Dec. 26, 1949, leaving her with the responsibility of their young daughter, Mary Lee, to raise alone.

Marie moved from the farm she shared with Lee in Reubens to Lewiston, where she taught eighth-grade English at the Lewiston Junior High School until she moved into Jenifer Junior High, from which she retired in 1978.

Marie was born Jan. 8, 1913, raised on the family farm in Genesee, baptized at St. John's Lutheran Church, and graduated from the University of Idaho in 1934. Marie was extremely active during her 102 years, walking her Normal Hill neighborhood, working in her garden, doing her daily physical exercises and playing bridge. Her independent spirit was exhibited in her living alone, driving herself to her hairdresser, shopping for bargains and conducting all of her business activities. Her primary activities involved her loyalty to Trinity Lutheran Church as she organized the ushers and communion servers, participated in Bible Study, attended various church meetings and served as treasurer of the Mary Martha Circle. Marie loved to travel with her daughter and friends to many parts of the world, including Germany, Austria, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Hungary, Slovakia, Russia, Luxembourg, Finland, Poland, Mexico, Canada and many states in the United States. She was a voracious reader and never lost her interest in world affairs and local politics.

Marie cared for both her mother and her brother in the family home before each passed with Marie by their sides. She was a dedicated advocate of family responsibilities and loyalty to friends.

Marie is survived by her daughter, Mary Lee; her brother-in-law, Barney Webb; nieces and nephews of both the Webb and Rosenau families; dear neighbors in Lewiston; and friends spread across the country and Canada.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Gustave and Anna Rosenau; her brothers, Stanley and Gustave; and her sister, Maxine Davis.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. June 13 at Trinity Lutheran Church, followed by a lunch in the church hall. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Camp Lutherhaven, which was close to her heart.
