12/10/1923 — 11/4/2018

Laura M. Thompson, a retired homemaker residing in Lewiston passed away peacefully on November 4, 2018 at Life Care Center in Lewiston. She was 94.

She was born December 10, 1923, the youngest of five children, to Bertenius and Susie (Wohlman) Ramsland at the family farm near Almont, ND.  Laura attended country school for the first grade and then went to Almont School.  Growing up she worked as a waitress and babysitter for the school teachers in the area.

She married Theodore C. (Bud) Thompson on April 2, 1953 in Bismarck, ND.  After their marriage they lived in Almont, ND, then moving to a farm near Lark, ND and farming for several years before moving to Fairbanks, Alaska in 1969 where her husband worked in construction.  They retired to Lewiston, ID in 1979.

She enjoyed many crafts and was an excellent bread baker, making many loaves of fresh bread for her family to enjoy over the years.  Holiday meals at their house were always a favorite with lots of good homemade foods including baked beans and lefsa, which she learned to make from her mother on a coal fired cook stove as a child.  Her favorite craft was plastic canvas projects and many family members and friends have musical “Rudolph” reindeer Christmas ornaments or a tissue box cover.  In 2016 she moved to an assisted living facility in Lewiston, where she enjoyed playing bingo, and attending the various parties with her friends there, and our mother at 94 years young, would tell her children “don’t come to visit me in the afternoon today because I will be at a party”.

Her survivors include two daughters, Charmaine (Kirk) Hayfield of Spokane, WA, and Susan (Steve) Swanson of Lewiston, ID, two sons, Terry Thompson of Lewiston, ID, and Randy Thompson of Lewiston, ID, two grandsons, Greg Gappert (Darcy) of Camino, CA, and Casey Swanson of Lewiston, ID, two granddaughters, Melissa Peterson of Spokane, WA, and Ashley Staab (Jimmy) of Lewiston, ID. She was also great-grandma to Madison Gappert of Newport News, VA and Kyla Peterson of Spokane, WA.

She was preceded in death by her husband Bud, a son, Dale Thompson, her parents, Bertenius  and Susie Ramsland, three sisters, LouElla Johnson, Elvira Theil, and Lucille Reeff, and one brother Adolph Ramsland.

She will be missed by her family, many nieces and nephews, and great friends she made over the years.
