May 24, 1939 — June 12, 2025

Our mom, Joyce Laverne Tinnel, was born on May 24, 1939, in Madera, Calif., to John W. Findley and Della E. Findley (Haskins). Little sister Patricia followed along five years later.
During mom’s youth, the family moved between California, Arkansas, Idaho and Washington states, as her parents moved “wherever the work was.” They eventually settled in the Moscow/Pullman area.
Mom’s first marriage to Wayne L. Darby ended in divorce. Her second marriage to Keith H. Hawley sadly ended upon his death in a flying accident in 1974. Mom later went on to marry Gerald J. Tinnel in 1990 and remained married to Jerry until his passing in 2019.
During mom’s working career she was a bookkeeper for many years in Moscow and Pullman and then went on to bartending. She worked at the Moose Lodge in Clarkston until she retired.
Mom enjoyed traveling, especially to the Pacific Coast, visiting her parents in Arkansas where they retired, and spending time with her flowers and yard. She was also an avid reader throughout most of her life. She very much enjoyed PBS stations and gladly supported them, along with Boys Town, St. Jude and the Shriners, through her monthly donations.
Mom passed away at her home on Thursday, June 12, 2025, due to age related issues. She is survived by her sister Patrica King (Hal), sons; Mark Darby and wife Linda, and their children, Dylan (Callie) and Codi, Kevin Hawley and wife Jenny Rynearson and their children, Jessica Hawley Weddle (Brent), Brook Brown (Cody) and Lane Goin; as well as daughter Marcia Darby and husband Gary Holthaus and their children, Amanda Tripple Peterson (Dan), and Dayne Holthaus. She is also survived by her daughter Monica’s children; Kristi Dodson (Blaine), Kimberly Quiring (T.J.), Derek Felton (Betina) and Keri Felton. Mom also has numerous great-grandchildren.
Mom was preceded in death by her parents, husbands Keith and Jerry, as well as her oldest daughter, Monica Darby Felton who passed away in 2019, leaving a huge hole in her heart.
Per mom’s wishes there will be no service. We know she would hope that people would donate to a charity that was close to their hearts and to feed any stray cats that may come around.
