James Thompson

James Thompson

7/17/1946 — 2/17/2024

Jim got his angel wings unexpectedly Saturday, Feb. 17, 2024, at TriState Health in Clarkston, surrounded by his family. Jim was born in Lewistown, Mont., on July 17, 1946, to Harold and Lillian (Lahr) Thompson. He was welcomed by his big brother Buddy. A few years later, they welcomed a baby sister Marilyn. Jim graduated from Potlatch High School in 1964. He married his sweetheart Natalee Steele on Jan. 1, 1965. Together they were blessed with three children, that drove them crazy and kept them guessing.

Jim farmed in his younger days, then went in to the logging industry and later construction. Jim was a dedicated worker, loving what he did. He finally retired in 2018 at the age of 72 from M.A. DeAtley. He was a talented welder, skilled fabricator and mechanic. He loved a challenge and enjoyed the projects he took on.

After retirement, they wintered in Yuma, Ariz., for a few years. Jim loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, family and friends. He would take donuts over to the DeAtley shop, to catch up with the guys. He loved anything outdoors, fishing, gardening, trips to Treasure Gulch, cutting wood at his sisters, tinkering in his shop, playing on his tractor and always looked forward going to hunting camp with the family.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; his brother Harold “Buddy”; and brother in-law Howard Zimmerman.

Jim is survived by his wife of 59 years, Natalee; his three children, Cynthia (Steve) Normington, of Potlatch, Steven (Lori) Thompson, of Princeton and Carla (Scott) Blair, of Lewiston; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sister Marilyn Zimmerman; sister in-law Nancy Thompson, and Carolyn Wilding; last but not least, Leroy, his loyal cat.

A celebration of life for family and friends is planned for 2 p.m., Sunday, March 10, at the Princeton Community Center. Help us celebrate a life well lived.

A private burial will take place.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Potlatch Ambulance or a charity of your choice.
