James "Jim" E. Barott of Lewiston passed on at Guardian Angel Homes on Friday, April 14, 2017, at 12:27 p.m.

Jim was born and raised in Aitkin County in Minnesota. He was the oldest son of Harold and Alice Barott. He is survived by his daughter, Lauri J. McClain, and his son, Dr. James E. Barott III, and their families, which include five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Agnes; his brother, Robert; as well as sisters Lois and Lucille.

Jim attended public schools in McGregor, Minn. He later attended the University of Minnesota at Duluth, where he was active in sports and a member of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve. In Duluth, Jim played semi-pro baseball and participated in amateur boxing. In the late 1940s, Jim joined his extended family in the northern migration west, moving to Richland, where he married Agnes P. Barott on Aug. 31, 1950. In Richland, Jim worked for his father's trucking business and later for General Electric at the Hanford Atomic Energy Reservation.

Jim left GE in 1956 and took a position as a station agent with West Coast Airlines in Moscow. After two years in Moscow, he was promoted and transferred to Salt Lake City, where he served as an assistant station manager.

The family's next stop was Ephrata, Wash., where Jim served as station manager for Air West Airlines. The Barott family moved to Lewiston in 1961 when Jim assumed the role of station manager for Hughes Air West at the Lewiston airport.

After 15 years in Lewiston, Jim and Agnes moved to Houston when Jim was promoted to regional sales manager for what became Republic Airlines, and then Northwest Airlines, and finally Delta Airlines. When Jim retired, he returned to Lewiston, where he and Agnes made their home for the past 20 years. Jim was active in church work and especially enjoyed playing golf.

A funeral and memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. June 10 at the community cemetery in McGregor, Minn. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Guardian Angel Homes or the Congregational Presbyterian Church, 709 Sixth St., Lewiston.
