Jack married his wife of 60 years, Donna Kanikkeberg, on Oct. 21, 1956, at the Kendrick Methodist Church, and they were blessed with two children, Janet and Doug.

Jack and his brother, Gerald, farmed and ranched for 43 years in the Kendrick area before Jack retired in 1997. During his tenure farming and ranching, he was a board member of the Kendrick Rochdale and was a supervisor for the Soil and Water Conservation District. In 1986, he and Gerald were awarded the Outstanding Conservation Farmer award by the Soil and Water Conservation District.
