Evelyn Ogden

Evelyn Ogden

3/17/1916 — 4/21/2019

Evelyn Mae Moore Ogden went to sleep in Christ Sunday, April 21, 2019, at Golden Girls Residential Care in Lewiston.

Evelyn, 103, was born March 17, 1916, in Harrison, Idaho, on Lake Coeur d’Alene. She graduated from St. Maries High School in 1934 and went on to train in various occupations, including as a beautician, secretary and teacher. Many of Evelyn’s teaching positions involved one-room schoolhouses in north central Idaho, including the one on Texas Ridge. She began working for the Lewiston Public Library in 1954 and remained there until her retirement at age 80.

In 1953, she married a longtime friend, Voyt Ogden. They were married 18 years before he passed away suddenly. Evelyn committed her life to Christ in baptism in 1973. She was a devoted member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church throughout the rest of her life. She was very generous and supported many charitable works. Though Evelyn was quite shy, she was a devoted friend to many and was always loving and supportive of her family.

She had no children of her own, but cared for her sisters’ children as if they were her own. As the eldest surviving child of her family, Evelyn took her role as her sisters’ caretaker very seriously and was a great support to them. When her father was no longer able to live by himself, she invited him to live with her and cared for him until his death. Evelyn and her sisters loved to travel together, especially to the Oregon Coast. They also went on a cross-country road trip, a lifelong treasured memory for all. Her adventurous spirit led her to take a journey to the Holy Land when she was in her 70s. She also loved camping every chance she got.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Voyt; her parents, Ray and Lucy Moore; and her sisters, Irene Torgerson, Marian White and Nadene Accongio. She is survived by her brother-in-law, Thomas Accongio; her niece, Leslie Grote; and her nephews, Scott Accongio, Paul Accongio and Kimron Torgerson and his wife, Daryl.

Evelyn lived a long, full life and will be greatly missed by her many surviving family and friends. Evelyn went to her rest in the great hope of the soon return of Jesus Christ and the resurrection.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to AWR, 12501 Old Columbia Pike, Silver Spring, MD 20904; or to the charity of your choice.

A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Seventh-day Adventist Church, 1212 19th St., Lewiston, followed by a luncheon and graveside service at 3 p.m. at Elwood Cemetery on Texas Ridge.
