Elsie McKeehan

Elsie McKeehan

10/11/1935 — 1/31/2015

Saturday evening, Jan. 31, 2015, Elsie Joan McKeehan passed away at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Lewiston, surrounded by her family. She had fallen in her home 10 days earlier and hadn't left the hospital.

Elsie was born Oct. 11, 1935, in Lewiston, the third child of Leonard and Estelle Leona Clark Sutton. She spent her entire childhood living in Clarkston, graduating from Clarkston High School in 1954.

She and Robert Albert Eugene McKeehan were married Sept. 23, 1955, in the Nazarene Church on 10th Street in Lewiston. They made their home in Lewiston and raised two children together. They had been married 55 years when he died in 2011.

Elsie worked at several jobs in her younger years - car hopping on roller skates at the Wagon Wheel Drive-Inn in Clarkston, working at C.C. Anderson Department Store, Potlatch Forest Industries and then cleaning chickens at Albright Poultry. Next she worked at Blue Ribbon Laundry and then as a housekeeper/companion to several elderly ladies. She was a talented seamstress, sewing everything from motorcycle seat covers to curtains to bridesmaids' dresses through the years. More recently, she made quilts.

She was proud of being a lifetime member of the parent-teacher association. In the past, she participated in the League of Women Voters and played bunco monthly. For a short time she "sewed little critters" with the Pink Ladies at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center and she was a member of the Seaport Quilt Guild for a number of years.

Surviving Elsie are her son, Kevin and daughter-in-law Kelly; her grandson, Kameron and his wife Jennifer and their sons (her great-grandsons) Tyler and Tanner. Also surviving are her sister, Karen Rhodes; brothers, Loren Sutton, Wayne (Shay) Wood; several nieces and nephews who meant a lot to her; and her sisters-in-law, Marian Sutton, Shirlie Thorton and Bonnie Turner.

She was preceded in death by her husband; daughter Debra Joan; brothers David and Lee Sutton; sister Ardella Galles; and nephew Wayne Wood Jr.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Malcom's Brower-Wann Funeral Home, 1711 18th St., Lewiston.

Elsie always spoke highly of the medical care her brother David received at the Shriners Hospital for Children at 911 W. Fifth Ave., Spokane, WA 99204. It would please her to have memorial donations sent there.
