Donald Dennler

Donald Dennler

10/12/1935 — 6/10/2015

Don passed away peacefully in his home because of a heart condition early Wednesday, June 10, 2015. He was born Oct. 12, 1935, to David H. and Eleanor V. Dennler at St. Joseph Hospital in Lewiston.

Don graduated from Genesee High School in 1953. During his time in school, he was the student body president and was an outstanding basketball player, receiving college scholarships for his basketball talents. Instead of going to college he returned to the family farm. Shortly thereafter, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Vicenza, Italy, where he served two years. Upon completion of his service, Don returned to the Northwest to farm, first in Spangle and then to Fix Ridge in Juliaetta. On Sept. 26, 1967, he met Liane Merrill Pope, and on Dec. 16, 1967, they were married.

He enjoyed his family, the farming lifestyle, working with livestock, his relationship with the Lord and his Sheltie dogs and other various pets.

In addition to helping to build the Zion Lutheran Church in Juliaetta, Don was a faithful supporter and active member throughout most of his life. He held many different offices in the church including chairman and treasurer, performed maintenance duties for the church and spent several years maintaining the Fix Ridge Cemetery.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a brother, David C. Dennler; two sons, Paul M. and Tony W.; and a daughter, Jennifer L., all of whom dearly miss him.

Previously deceased family members include his mother, Eleanor; his father, David; and a stepfather, Wayne Wegner.

A memorial and life celebration service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Juliaetta Community Church. Interment will follow at 1:30 p.m. at Fix Ridge Cemetery near Juliaetta.

The family suggests memorials be contributions to the Genesee Fire and Ambulance Fund, P.O. Box 38, Genesee, ID 83832; the Juliaetta-Kendrick Ambulance Fund, P.O. Box 182, Kendrick, ID 83537; or Doctors Without Borders USA, P.O. Box 5030, Hagerstown, MD 21741-5030.
