Dani Lynne Scott, 67, passed away peacefully Sunday, July 12, 2026. Born Nov. 24, 1958, to Wilfred and Bessie Scott at the Quonset Point Naval Station in Kingston, R.I., Dani was the middle child of six siblings.

Growing up in a proud military family, Dani’s childhood was full of activity, adventure and travel. She attended public schools across Rhode Island, Maryland, California, Tennessee and Mississippi before graduating from Lapwai High School in 1976. Throughout her youth, Dani stayed deeply active in her communities through Brownies, Girl Scouts, tap dancing and the last of the teen Casey’s Dancers. In high school, she brought her vibrant energy to volleyball, bowling, cheerleading, drama, choir, played the clarinet and played Choctaw stickball in 1970.

Dani deeply valued education and continued her studies at Boise State College and Lewis-Clark State College, where she successfully earned her certificate as a paralegal. While at LCSC, she fostered her love for the arts through drama, performing locally at the Lewiston Civic Theatre. Above all, Dani loved God and found great comfort and strength in her faith, reading her Bible daily.

Later in life, Dani welcomed her son, John Oatman Jr., with John Oatman Sr. She later met the love of her life, Frank Blackeagle, and together they completed their family with their daughter, Bessie Blackeagle.

Dani was a hard worker who dedicated her time and talents to her community. She was employed over the years with the Nez Perce Tribe, Hardee’s, Walmart and Omark, and spent 23 dedicated years working for Nez Perce Tribe Enterprises. Outside of work, Dani was a devoted animal lover who found immense joy and companionship in the many pets and strays she cared for throughout her life, especially her beloved Sunflower and Hennessey.

Beginning in 2016, her son became her devoted caregiver, providing her with love, comfort and compassionate care.

Dani is survived by her son, John Oatman Jr.; her cherished grandchildren, Robin Redstar, Niomi Gomez, Sienna Gomez and John David Wheeler; and extended family members who loved her dearly.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Frank Blackeagle; her daughter, Bessie Blackeagle; her parents, Wilfred and Bessie Scott; her brother, James Scott; her maternal grandparents, James Greene and Maggie Mox Mox; her paternal grandparents, Lyman Scott, Clara Ramsey; and the late Greetis Goldner.

Memorial Services will be held at 6 p.m., Wednesday July 15, at the Pineewaus in Lapwai. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., July 16, at the Pineewaus, burial at Cyote Cemetary, Lapwai, and dinner to follow at the Pineewaus.
