Anna Berg

Anna Berg

8/20/1914 — 4/10/2017

Anna Louise Berg passed away Monday, April 10, 2017, after spending 102 years with us.

Anna was born Aug. 20, 1914, in Palouse, to Harry and Inez Dailey. She was raised on the family farm with her siblings: Hilda, Chuck, Gordon, Dick, Betty and Sarah. After high school, Anna attended the University of Idaho for three semesters before entering nursing school. Impressively, in 1938, Anna proudly graduated St. Luke's School of Nursing in Spokane. Soon after graduation, she accepted employment as a registered nurse at the Potlatch hospital, happily working 12-hour shifts for living quarters, meals and $60 per month.

Anna married Erick Berg of Potlatch on Dec. 9, 1939. The couple welcomed the addition of Lois Ann in February 1941 and Linda in August 1942. In 1945, Potlatch Forests Inc. moved the family to Lewiston. Anna was asked to become the first lead mill nurse on site. In April 1948, the family grew with the birth of Miles, then again in April 1950 with Arnold - and once again in September 1951 with John. From 1948 to 1951, Anna focused on raising the children, instilling in them the value of honesty and hard work.

Anna made the choice to continue her career in 1954, when she began working at St. Joseph's Hospital. She worked there for the next 20 years, acting as the head nurse in the newborn/premature nursery for 16 of those years. In 1974, Anna retired from nursing. In retirement she enjoyed many hobbies, such as attending her church, knitting, gardening, golfing, following local sports teams and volunteering for various organizations such as Meals on Wheels and Home Health. She fondly remembered taking her European tour and class reunion, both in 1978.

Anna will be remembered for her independent spirit, encouragement of others and generosity. The wisdom she imparted along the way will be handed down to future generations. She will be missed by all who knew her and shared in her life.

Anna is survived by her sister, Sarah Rigby; children Linda Brown, Miles (Kathy) Berg, Arnold Berg (Leslie Nelson) and John (Betty) Berg; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren, who all loved her tremendously.

Per Anna's request, there will be no services. Thank you to friends and family who visited Anna throughout the years. A special thanks to Pat Fowler and the caring staff at Living Springs who provided exceptional care.
