Alan Keller

Alan Keller

11/26/1951 — 10/28/2023

Alan Ray Keller was born to Harold A. and Margaret M. (Peggy) Keller, in Lewiston, on Nov. 26, 1951, the oldest of their three children. He lived most of his childhood in Clarkston, later moving to Lewiston as an adult. He died Saturday, Oct. 28, 2023, at the age of 71, at Lewiston Transitional Care of Cascadia in Lewiston, where he had been living for the past three years.

As a child, he enjoyed drawing, climbing trees, riding his bicycle, digging in the dirt and playing with Matchbox cars and an HO-scale train. He graduated from Clarkston High School.

As an adult he worked for a time with Opportunities Unlimited and at the 88-cent Store in Lewiston. He especially enjoyed eating yummy food and talking to people—he could remember names and faces of almost everyone he had ever met. For much of his adulthood, he could be seen in his cowboy hat and boots, riding his bike along Lewiston’s Main Street. He would stop at all the businesses to visit people along the way.

He always had a pencil and paper in his pocket so he could make notes and draw pictures; he also painted pictures. His interests included astronomy and the Bible. He liked Pullman and wanted to live there. He had many other varied interests that were important to him at different times of his life, including Frank Lloyd Wright, and the Russian language.

Alan was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, and attended the Congregational Presbyterian Church, and Unity Church-Clearwater Valley as well.

He was preceded in death by his father; his grandparents, Carl and Margaret Keller and Floyd and Laura Pond. He is survived by his mother of Clarkston; his sister, Jana Peer and her husband, Brad, of Lewiston; his brother, Bruce Keller, of Clarkston; and two nieces and their families.

We are very grateful to the staff, doctors and caregivers at Lewiston Transitional Care of Cascadia for their resolve to make a comfortable place for Alan to call home these past few years. He was unhappy to have lost his independence and his daily routine, but they found ways to keep him busy and eventually he seemed content living there.

A memorial service for Alan will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 17, at Lewiston Seventh-day Adventist Church, 1212 19th St., Lewiston. Alan will be buried at Vineland Cemetery in Clarkston during a private service. Malcom’s Brower-Wann Funeral Home of Lewiston is in charge of arrangements.
