William "Bill" Mitchell passed away Saturday, May 6, 2017, at his home in Lewiston. He was 82.
Bill was born Aug. 3, 1934, in La Crosse, Wis., to Herman J. and Annette (Lee) Mitchell. He graduated from La Crosse High School in 1952 and the University of Wisconsin - Madison in 1957. After graduation from college, he entered the U.S. Marine Corps and served until 1959. He married Diane Holmes on July 28, 1962, in Brentwood, Calif.
Bill worked for Douglas Aircraft from 1958 to 1964 in Santa Monica, Calif., and then for Cascade Cartridge in Milwaukie, Ore., until 1968. He moved to Lewiston in 1968 and worked for Omark, now Vista Outdoor, retiring from ATK as a materials manager in 1996.
Bill enjoyed hunting, fishing and golfing. He was a member of the Clarkston Golf and Country Club and sank three holes-in-one during his golfing career. He also was a die-hard Green Bay Packers fan and rooted for the Wisconsin Badgers. Bill enjoyed watching Lewis-Clark State College basketball and the NAIA World Series.
Bill is survived by his wife, Diane Mitchell; children Tracey (Dale) Halland, and Tim (Traci) Mitchell; and granddaughter Becca Mitchell. He was preceded in death by siblings Howard, Bob, Leanne, Mary Jane, Joanne and Mary Kay.
