Wayne Lee Walling passed away Tuesday, May 12, 2015, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center. He died following service to his country at the age of 66.
Wayne was born April 23, 1949, in Los Angeles, to Benjamin (Bud) and Betty Walling. He attended Hartnell College in Salinas, Calif., before joining the U.S. Air Force, where he earned his bachelor's degree. He traveled to Texas and then Vietnam for two years before being stationed in California. From California, Wayne traveled to Lakenheath in Great Britain and was stationed there for nine years. He met and married his true love, Carol, in Lakenheath on Oct. 18, 1973. Wayne served in the Air Force for 20 years before retiring as a master sergeant. They both traveled to Mountain Home, Idaho, and lived there for eight years. The couple finally moved to the Lewiston-Clarkston Valley in 1992.
Wayne was a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church, the Moose Lodge, the model train club and the Clearwater Equestrian Club.
Wayne is survived by his wife, Carol Ann Walling of Clarkston; daughters Melissa Diane Robeson of Clarkston, Cindy Marie Sturman of England and Melanie Hoffelder of Clarkston; son Anthony Dean Robeson of Clarkston; sisters-in-law Eileen Thacker and Mary Allen of England; brothers-in-law Dennis Allen and Keith Allen of England; son-in-law Daniel Hoffelder of Clarkston; sister Kathy Damon of Salinas; grandchildren Antani Walling, Andrea Rogers and Brittani Beauchamp; and great-grandchildren Kya Larraine Robeson, Roen Carol Robeson, Abbline Ann Robeson and Alexis Leona Shelton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin (Bud) and Betty Walling.
Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday at Emmanuel Baptist Church, with John Stroupe officiating. A reception will follow the service at the Moose Lodge in Clarkston.
