Victor Roybal of Lewiston died Friday, Jan. 31, 2014, of heart failure. He was 75 years old.
Victor was born Jan. 28, 1939, to Jennie and Benjamin Roybal in Billings, Mont. He grew up in Pasco, Wash., and at the age of 18 he moved to Sacramento, Calif., where he spent the next 16 years. He and his wife, Shirley, moved to Lewiston in 1976, where they have lived for the past 38 years. Victor worked for Clearwater Power, and more recently for Safeway, where he retired several years ago.
To his family, Victor was a beloved husband, father and grandfather. He taught his children the meaning of living a good, honest life. He never ceased in his devotion to his family, and worked long, hard hours to see to it they were all provided for. He taught his children to have respect for the elderly, and set a good example in the love and care he extended to members of his own family in their later years. He was also called Grandpa by many of his grandchildren's friends. He was his family's strength, and his example was a foundation on which their lives were built. His world was built around his family and the enjoyment of things done together.
Victor is survived by his wife of 40 years, Shirley, at the family home in Lewiston; his daughter, Jeni Arbuckle and her husband, Ralph; two sons, Ron and Terry Roybal of Sacramento, Calif.; three step-daughters, Jackie Godwin and her husband Lonny, and Jeri Gumm and Angie Elliott, both of Lewiston. Victor was the grandfather of Dakota, Brittnay, Victor and Chris Arbuckle, Ashleigh Johnson and Shayne Elliott of Lewiston, Bradley Bailey in Walla Walla and Cody Reintjes in Everett, Wash., as well as Ronnie and Brittnay Roybal in Sacramento, Calif.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Victor Jr. and Barry Roybal, his parents and five brothers.
