Terry W. Gammond, 63, of Lewiston, passed away Thursday, Nov. 2, 2017, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, surrounded by his loved ones.
Terry was born Aug. 11, 1954, in Pendleton, Ore., to Buster and Jerrie Gammond. He grew up in Pilot Rock, Ore., where he graduated high school in 1972. He served two years in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany. Terry continued to serve a number of years in the U.S. Army Reserves after meeting Susan Poffenberger in 1980 and starting a family with her.
Terry and Susan had their first daughter, Megan, in 1980. They were married in 1984 and completed their family in 1985, when they welcomed another daughter, Coree. They later divorced in 1993, but remained friends all the way to the day he passed away.
Terry lived in Pendleton for 34 years before moving to Lewiston to be closer to his daughters and grandchildren. During his time in Pendleton, he worked many years at the Pendleton Woolen Mills, a few years for the city of Pendleton, and he even drove school bus for two years. In 2004, he began working for Walmart, and in 2006, transferred to the Walmart store in Clarkston and continued working there until illness no longer allowed in 2017. He took pride in his hard work ethic and put full effort into each job.
Shortly after moving to Lewiston, he met Amber Warner, and their relationship blossomed. She was by his side all the way to the end. They both enjoyed watching movies together and spoiling their beloved cats.
Terry was a lover of music, mostly rock 'n' roll, and enjoyed playing the guitar. He spent his free time reading books, especially James Patterson, John Grisham and Stephen King. When he had the chance, he enjoyed hunting, camping and shooting, although he had wished he could have gone more.
Terry made it easy for people to like him. He was easy-going, friendly and looked forward to moments spent with his family and doting over his grandchildren. During one of his last family gatherings, he reminisced about when his daughters were younger and told them many stories from their childhood. It will be cherished as a great memory, with many hours spent laughing and talking and having an amazing time with loved ones on that summer day.
Terry is survived by his parents, Buster and Jerrie Gammond of Pilot Rock; sisters Gina (Jim) Petersohn of La Grande, Ore., and Bobbi (John) Robinson of Wahpeton, N.D.; daughters Megan (Shawn) Weber, and Coree (Steven) Edelman of Lewiston; six grandchildren; seven nieces; one nephew; and longtime companion Amber Warner of Lewiston.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Harry and LaVern Gammond, and Herbert and Fannie Morford.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
