Our mother, Sophia Rebecca Ellis, 94, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2015, at Royal Plaza Care Center in Lewiston. She was born Feb. 6, 1920, to Henry and Lottie Oeistrich in Linn, Kan. She met Leonard B. Ellis in Courtland, Kan. They were married Feb. 25, 1940, and settled in Lewiston.
Mom, with Dad's help, raised four children in Lewiston, Janet, Leonard, Myra and Ron. Family was everything to them and always came first.
Mom loved gardening and won numerous Nez Perce County Fair ribbons with her flowers and vegetables. She was particularly proud of her Best of Class and Donnie Barstow ribbons. Our mom loved any type of fishing, but steelhead fishing was her favorite. She took great pride in beating Dad at catching the biggest fish. Mom loved doing anything outdoors, whether it was camping, hiking or picking huckleberries. Spring was her favorite season because she could get outside and dig in the dirt again.
She is survived by her children, Janet Brown, Len (Linda) Ellis, Ron (Connie) Ellis, all of Lewiston, and Myra (Bill) McGavin of Wenatchee; and grandchildren Lori, Shannon, Allen, Scott, Carrie, Amy, Kami, Troy and Krisann; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her two sisters, Cecile and Frances; brother Bob; husband Leonard; grandson Brian Ellis; and son-in-law, Don Brown.
We would like to thank Dr. McIntosh, St. Joseph Hospice, Prestige Care and Rehabilitation, Wedgewood Terrace and Royal Plaza Care Center for the special care given to our mother.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to the Brian Todd Ellis Memorial Scholarship, c/o LIFE Foundation, Lewiston School District, 3317 12th St., Lewiston, ID, 83501.
A graveside memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Normal Hill Cemetery.
