Sidney Marvin Palmer, 70, ended his journey here in this life after 20 years of chronic kidney issues and complications. He passed away Friday, May 31, 2019, at Tri-State Memorial Hospital in Clarkston.

Sid was born Nov. 6, 1948, in Tacoma, to Mabel Foot McKenzie and Leslie Clarence Palmer. He grew up in the Clarkston area and graduated from Clarkston High School in 1968. Always a hard worker, Sid even took jobs at an early age as a child, such as haying and picking rocks out of farmers’ fields. He worked full time in his senior year at a gas station, while also attending high school full time. Within a short time after graduation, he was able to buy his first house.

He started work at Potlatch Corp. at the lumber mill, in 1970. He worked there for 31 years, retiring at the age of 52 with kidney issues, and leaving the mill as a supervisor in the surfacing department.

In 1974, he met Jeannine Livengood and they were married Feb. 8, 1980. He gained a stepson, Nick Jacobson, with the marriage. They soon after had their first child together, Kimberly Palmer. Four years later they had a son, Travis Palmer.

Sid immensely loved people, nature and animals. He had a vast knowledge gained from many interests. One of his favorite passions was fishing. He also enjoyed camping and being in the forest when he could. He enjoyed artwork, stones and collecting coins. He cherished and loved his yard, which he spent many years developing and landscaping himself. He loved his trees, flowers and gardens, as well as all of the wildlife creatures that gravitated there.

He was interested in politics and the news, and kept up with everything current. He was also known to cook fabulous meals, enjoyed by family and friends at gatherings and at home. Sid was known to hearteningly brighten a room with his unique jokes and sense of humor. People who knew Sid also knew he could be very stubborn in his ways. We all learned to let him make his point in an argument and move on, because there was no winning it. He also had a heart of gold when it came to caring and being generous. Sid was truly one of a kind, and will be missed and remembered by many from the imprint he left behind.

As for me, his daughter, he was the strength and guidance I desperately needed in hard times, and he was always there for me, even when I became an adult.

As Sid’s wife, he was my rock, my love and my mentor in this life. He made me the person I am today. Goodnight, darling.

The family wishes to gratefully thank the dialysis unit at Tri-State Memorial Hospital. He loved to come home and recall all of the play and fun he had while there. Gratitude is also extended to Dr. Celso Chavez for his awesome and insightful conversations and visits at his office. Thanks to Sid’s dear friend, Don Anderson, for his weekly visits, and for phone calls that Sid so enjoyed from caring friends. He loved each and every friend. Sid held love for his grandchildren as well.

The family also wishes to extend a very heartfelt thank you to Tri-State Memorial Hospital for the wonderful care that was given to both Sid and the family during this difficult time of accepting and caring for Sid during his transition.

Preceding in death are both of his parents and his stepfather, Neil McKenzie; brothers Rodney Palmer and Mike Palmer; sisters Freda (Palmer) Johnson, Linda (Palmer) Stadtmiller, and Brenda (Palmer) Breshears; and his son, Travis Palmer.

He is survived by his wife, Jeannine Palmer; daughter Kimberly Palmer; stepson Nickolas Jacobson; brother Bryan and his wife, Gail Palmer, of Roanoke, Va.; sister Julia Palmer of Clarkston; grandchildren Kaleigh, Allysa and Trent; great-grandchildren Lilly, Ralynn, Zoe and Cody; nieces Alicia Stadtmiller and Michele (Palmer) Tibbits; and nephews Devon Stadtmiller and Jimmy Palmer.

Sid always joked that God was his twin brother, and that when he got up there, he was going to straighten God out. Oh God, you have your hands full.
