Ruth F. Thomas was born Jan. 19, 1927, in Miles City, Mont., to Jacob and Anna Hirsch, one of 10 children born on the Hirsch homestead.
She spent her school years there and found her love of the restaurant industry - from waitress to cook, cook to manager, manager to owner. She worked in many cafes throughout the Northwest and enjoyed serving her homemade pies, soups and daily lunch specials. She worked at Stockyards Cafe, Montgomery Wards Cafe, the Silver Dollar, Curley's and the love of her career, the Fifth Wheel Cafe, which she started and became successful as she raised three children: Blaine D. Thomas (Lana), 71, of LaCrosse, Bobbi Reeve (Gary) 66, of Spokane and Mark E. Thomas, 61, of Clarkston.
She was old-school to her core and instilled that into her grandchildren: Danyle Thomas (Mike) of Pomeroy, Jen Hart (Ben) of Spokane, Amanda Reeve of Spokane, Blaine Thomas (Dawn) of Clarkston and Teagan Cabrera (Chris) of Clarkston.
Ruth met her husband, H. Park Thomas (deceased), in Grand Coulee, Wash. - of course, in a cafe. They were married Sept. 24, 1946, in Wenatchee. They farmed, ranched, logged and kept the cafes operating. She took special care of her employees and friends as well as many strangers.
Ruth lived such a full life that she got to meet her seven great-grandchildren: Haily Thomas of Pomeroy, Lindsay Hart and Nate Hart of Spokane, Braylon Thomas and Reed Thomas of Clarkston, Camden Cabrera and Caysen Cabrera of Clarkston.
Mom taught us the love of the Lord and our savior. Thanks for that, Mom.
A very special thank you to Prestige Care for making her happy, fulfilled and comfortable. Godspeed, Mom.
