Robert Leroy Banks, 71, died early Saturday morning, April 6, 2024, at Lakeside Residential in Winchester. He was born Oct. 3, 1952, to Leo and Arletta (Kleist) Banks, in Lewiston. He was the second-oldest of four children. His father was a firefighter for the city of Lewiston and his mother was a homemaker.
In childhood, Robert and his brother Larry played on the sand hill, went sledding and exploring on what is now Hells Canyon Grand Hotel. He enjoyed camping with his family at Red River and on the Selway. Robert loved reading history books and was especially interested in the Civil War and World War II eras. He was fond of Washington State University and liked wearing Cougar attire.
Robert graduated from Lewiston High School in 1972. Later he became a janitor at the first McDonald’s that opened in Lewiston. He was named the first employee of the year at that restaurant. Robert worked for Fazzari’s Pizza in Clarkston for 25 years.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents; his grandparents, Harry Banks and Addie Wickersham Banks, Joseph Kleist and Rose Pfister Kleist; and step-grandfather Victor Frank.
Robert is survived by his brother Larry Banks, Kooskia; sisters Mary Ann (Doug) Robertson, Lewiston, Margaret Banks, Winchester; aunts Betty Baker, Summerville, Ore., Arlene Baker, Imbler, Ore.; several cousins, including Marilyn Halsey, Lewiston and John Banks, Springfield, Ore.; two nieces Heather Smith and Megan Tunnicliff.
Thanks to Janae Harris and the staff at Lakeside Residential for the special care they gave Robert. Also, thanks to the boys that he worked with at Fazzari’s Pizza.
Robert was a kind and caring person who was loved by many and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
