Patty J. Cay Sparks died Monday, Sept. 24, 2018, in Lewiston, of ovarian cancer.
Patty was born Oct. 8, 1945, to Ray C. and Mary A. Hazelbaker, in Lewiston. She was the second child of six. She graduated from Lewiston High School in 1963 and from Lewis-Clark State College in 1968, with a teaching degree.
Patty married David Larry Cay in June of 1966. They lived in Lewiston and had three children. Patty and David later divorced, but remained in Lewiston near family and friends.
She started out teaching grade school when her boys were young. In 1980, she went to work for Omark, retiring from ATK in 2010.
Patty met and married the man she chose to spend the rest of her life with, Jerry Sparks, in May of 2016. They lived in Lewiston and enjoyed traveling, fishing and camping together.
She believed in her community and loved volunteering when she could. She was a member of the LC Service League, Lewis Clark Quilts of Valor, delivered meals for Senior Nutrition, volunteered at the NAIA World Series and judged at the Nez Perce County Fair.
Patty was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Edward Hazelbaker. She is survived by her husband, Jerry; her three children: Jason (Jennifer) Cay of Phoenix, Chris (Evette) Cay of Lewiston and Shelli (Mike) Kiely of Lewiston. She also has three step-children: Julie (Steve) McGaughen, Chris (Desirae) Sparks of Coeur d’Alene and Jennifer Sparks of Texas. She is also survived by two brothers, Bob (Sandra) Hazelbaker of Sandpoint, Idaho, and Gary (Linda) Hazelbaker of Clarkston; and two sisters, Sally (Richard) Hatley of Wilbur, Wash., and Jody (Ralph) Arrington of Lewiston. She has 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Malcom’s-Brower Wann Funeral Home. A funeral is planned at 11 a.m., Saturday, at All Saints Catholic Church in Lewiston.
