Monica May Smith, 81, of Lewiston, died Thursday, Feb. 27, 2014, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Lewiston.
She was born Aug. 19, 1932, in Lewiston, to Bertrand Howell and Imogene Phillips-Howell.
Monica lived in the area her entire life and married William J. Smith June 15, 1947, in Clarkston. She and her husband owned and worked at Smith's Garden Square Nursery and Pets since 1950.
She was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, the Moose Lodge and the Elks Lodge.
Her family was the most important thing in her life, along with people, plants and pets.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Bertrand and Imogene Howell, and brothers Leonard Howell and Jerry Howell.
Monica is survived by her husband, William J. Smith of Lewiston; her daughters, Teressa L. Smith Doodigian (Joseph) of Buffalo, N.Y., and Tamara L. Smith of Lewiston; sisters Jeanette Pickard of Lake Forest Park, Wash., and Karla Pogue of Castle Rock, Wash.; granddaughters Erica and Jamie Rogers, both of Lewiston, and Wendy Doodigian of Buffalo; grandsons Nick Rogers of Lewiston, and Michael and Joseph Doodigian Jr., both of Buffalo; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Malcom's Brower-Wann Funeral Home in Lewiston.
The family suggests that memorial donations be made to the Lewis-Clark Animal Shelter or the American Cancer Society.

Monica was such an important part of our N. Lewiston lives for so many years. She will be missed by many but will be remembered by all the colorful flowers and trees we have planted around our homes.What a wonderfull lady.
