Mike passed into the loving arms of his Savior on Nov. 26, 2014, at the age of 59, after a courageous nine-month fight with lung cancer. He was born Oct. 21, 1955, to Shirley Landon and Jack Neff in Idaho Falls, where he grew up.
He had a happy childhood and youth surrounded by immediate and extended family. His life was full of family gatherings, hunting with his dad, skiing, driving muscle cars and motorcycles.
Mike married Pam Tolman in 1977 and the couple lived in Elko, Nev., where their daughter, Haley, was born. The family moved to Lewiston in 1982. The couple later divorced.
Mike enjoyed a career in the grocery business, first with Safeway and then with Tidyman's. He loved spending time in the woods camping and archery hunting. Mike was a true 12th man for the Seattle Seahawks since their inception in 1976. His love of football also led him to join the football coaching staff at Sacajawea Junior High. He was an avid bowler and made many lifelong friends on multiple leagues. Mike met Jill Jeppson while working at Tidyman's, and they married in 1996. It was clear from the beginning that the two were soulmates. Together they owned and operated Jack and Jill's Pizza in Winchester, where they lived for seven years. The couple relocated to Lewiston in 2001, where Mike worked for Applied Industrial Technologies for 15 years. Mike was an awesome dad and grandfather, and devoted husband. He was a loyal friend and had a quiet strength that endeared him to all who knew him. He was a talented artist and wood craftsman and created many family heirlooms, including his granddaughter's crib. Mike and Jill accumulated 90,000 miles riding together on their Harley-Davidson motorcycles, and Mike was happiest when cruising the open road on his bike.
Mike is survived by his wife, Jill, at the family home in Lewiston; daughter Haley (Justin) LaFord and granddaughter Karlyn of Lake Stevens, Wash.; mother Shirley Peterson of Shelley, Idaho; sister Melanie Bernal of Star, Idaho; sister Mareena Tompkins of Shelley, Idaho; brother Marlund (Robin) Neff of Worley, Idaho; and many extended family members who will cherish their memories of him.
Mike was preceded in death by his father, Jack Neff. The family would like to thank all those who expressed their love and prayers during his illness. A heartfelt thanks is also extended to St. Joseph's Family Hospice for their care and support during Mike's last days.
A celebration of Mike's life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Malcom's Brower-Wann Funeral Home in Lewiston. A luncheon will follow the service.
