Melvin Lee O’Dell, 89, of Clarkston, passed away at home Friday, Sept. 29, 2023.
Melvin was born on March 30, 1935, in Viola to Melvin F. O’Dell and Ethel I. Jarrot O’Dell. He was the youngest of one brother and two sisters.
Melvin married Donna M. Paffile on March 10, 1956. They had three daughters, Michelle Ann, Shari Lynn and Lori René.
He joined the U.S. Army Dec. 10, 1952, as a private and was honorably discharged as a SP3 on Dec. 9, 1955, where he served in the Korean War. Mel loved going to Japan when he was on leave.
He was employed as a construction and iron worker all around the Quad Cities. He worked on the Kibble Dome, Beasley Coliseum and St. Joseph Hospital to name a few.
Melvin is survived by Michelle Chapman and her kids, Eric (Tracie) Wallace and Colleen Hearing; Shari (Alan) Line and their three boys Bryce Line (Cherise Ansotigue), Trent (Patsy) Line and Steven (Kasey) Line; Lori Atwood (Corey Paine) and her son Ty (Angela) Atwood; and eight great-grandkids.
Mel was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Ethel O’Dell, his wife Donna O’Dell, his brother Lyman Luvaas Jr., and two sisters Donna Worle and Leona Spencer, great-granddaughter Gabby Wallace and grandson Levi Atwood.
Cremation has taken place and there will be no service per his request.
