Maynard Ellenwood, Jr.

Maynard Ellenwood, Jr.

10/4/1967 — 12/14/2014

Maynard Leigh (Ketch) Ellenwood Jr., son of Georganne Morrison and Maynard Lee Ellenwood Sr., passed away Sunday, Dec. 14, 2014, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Lewiston at the age of 47.

Maynard, a member of the Nez Perce Tribe, was born Oct. 4, 1967, in Lewiston, and grew up in Lapwai. As a young boy he was initiated into the powwow circle. He attended high school at Chemawa Indian School, a boarding school in Salem, Ore., where he boxed and played football, made lifelong friends and honed his artistic talents. After two years, he started missing home and decided to return to Lapwai and pursue his General Education Development certificate at Washington Sate University in Pullman. He went on to obtain an associate degree in graphic arts and printing design from Lewis-Clark State College. He worked in many different jobs, including wildland firefighting, and the last two summers as a fisheries technician for the Nez Perce Tribe Fisheries and Watershed Program.

Twenty years ago, Maynard and Kim Williams became the proud parents of Ariell DaShae Ellenwood, his first child. In addition to Ariell, he and Mandee Joann Taylor have three children and one stepchild. Maynard's second daughter is Marina LaShae Ellenwood. His sons are Rayce Rajon Ellenwood and Seven Lars-Orion Ellenwood. Brooke Lee Taylor, Hali Janelle Bisbee and Lonnie Lee Bisbee are Maynard's stepchildren. Mandee and all of his children survive him.

Maynard was a wonderful artist and enjoyed creating new and different designs. He enjoyed music and taught himself to play the guitar. He loved to go to rock concerts and always talked about his first concert, featuring Twisted Sister. He also loved riding BMX bikes and motorcycles, playing tennis, roller blading and snowboarding, but his real joys in life were his children.

Maynard was preceded in death by his father, Maynard Lee Ellenwood Sr.; a sister, Lynette Busch; and his grandmother, Regina Kane. Survivors, in addition to Mandee and his children, include his brothers, Daniel Jagels of Boise, Robert Morrison and Dale Morrison Jr., both of Lapwai; his mother, Georganne; and his stepfather, Dale Morrison Sr. in Lapwai; several aunts and uncles; and many, many cousins.

Mandee and Georganne and their families wish to thank all those who supported the family at the hospital and throughout the grieving process.

Memorial services will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Spalding Presbyterian Church. Funeral services will take place at 10 a.m. Friday at the Spalding church, followed by burial at Spalding Cemetery. A meal will be served at the conclusion of the burial at the Pi Nee Waus Community Center in Lapwai.
