Mark Edward Allen III passed away in Boise from complications of diabetes.
He was an enrolled Nez Perce tribal member born to Mark Joseph Allen Jr. and Ernestine Wanda Paul Mesplie on April 2, 1965, in Lewiston. Mark grew up in the Cottonwood Creek area in Culdesac, and went to grade school at Culdesac Elementary. He then went a short period to Lapwai High School. From the young age of 13, Mark began running farm equipment on the family farm and then drove heavy equipment with his father. Driving was his passion, as he loved to be behind the wheel of all types of vehicles. He traveled to many areas with our father on his construction jobs and learned early how to run heavy equipment. At the age of 18, he joined the Teamsters Union and began to drive a truck for Deatley Corporation out of Lewiston. From there, he worked with other construction companies driving heavy equipment until his health affected his ability to work at construction. He then began school at Lewis-Clark State College for a short time, majoring in communications technology.
Mark enjoyed hunting, fishing and gathering traditional foods with his family when he could. The mountain wilderness is where he felt most at home and he traveled to many parts of the Northwest to hunt and gather or just to be in nature. Mark always had a way of tearing something apart and putting it back together. He loved to do mechanic work and welding on automobiles and farm equipment. He often helped other people with mechanic work when he could.
Mark had a big heart for helping others. He would give you the shirt off his back, to which I am witness. He lived a tough life and faced many hardships and health issues. Mark slipped in and out of chaos throughout his life, often saying he came from the school of hard knocks. I believe he tried the best he could. Even though he faced life with so much adversity, he still kept his sense of humor about him.
Mark never married, but fathered a son, Jeremy Dustin Bovencamp, with Earlene Bovencamp; and Jacob (Skyler) Lonewolf Wilson and Shilo Standing Eagle Wilson with Angela Wilson.
Mark is survived by his father, Mark Allen Jr. of Culdesac; his mother, Ernestine Mesplie of Lenore; brother Ben (Susan) Allen Jr. of Clarkston; sister Myra (Larry) Campbell of Culdesac; brother Stewart Joseph Allen of Anchorage, Alaska; and his three sons, Jeremy Bovencamp of Lewiston, Skyler Wilson of Olympia and Shilo Wilson of Yelm, Wash.; as well as many nieces and nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.
A private family viewing will be held and cremation will then take place. There will be no services by request of the deceased. I am sure he had a special place in his heart for all who cared about and loved him.
