Marianne Troy McIntosh

Marianne Troy McIntosh

12/28/1930 — 5/8/2026

Marianne was born in Colfax on Dec. 28, 1930, and passed away on May 8, 2026, surrounded by her daughters. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dwain Herbert McIntosh; parents David Smith Troy II and Juanita Grace Gilleland Troy Reidler; brother David Smith Troy III; granddaughter Jennifer Christine Newbold; and great-grandson Ezra James Newbold.

She is survived by daughters Katherine McIntosh, Judy Newbold (Mark), Nancy McIntosh and Mary McIntosh; grandchildren Andrea (David) Knaggs, Amy (Joel) Cathey, Jacob (Sarah) Newbold and Annie Caron (Shelby Taggart); and great-grandchildren Joshua Knaggs, Isabel Knaggs, Robert Knaggs, Quinn Marianne Knaggs, June Cathey, Rowan Cathey, Reed Cathey, Izaak Newbold, Tempa Newbold and Ida Newbold.

Marianne grew up in Lewiston and attended the Lewis-Clark Normal School. While a student at Lewiston High School, she taught swimming alongside Bert Lipps at the original Bert Lipps Pool. She graduated from Lewiston High School in 1949.

She went on to attend Washington State College in Pullman, where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. She graduated in 1953 with a Bachelor of Arts in home economics.

On June 6, 1953, Marianne married Dwain Herbert McIntosh and traveled with him during his service in the U.S. Air Force. Following their Air Force years, Marianne and Dwain returned to Lewiston to help on the family farm. In 1960, Marianne and Dwain bought his parents’ home in Tammany.

Marianne was instrumental in making the ranch and home a beautiful place and contributed immeasurably to its success — helping with everything from harvest meals to making beer in the bathtub during busy harvest seasons.

She was an active member of the Lewiston Welfare League, Lewiston Mothers Club, Malac Temple of the Nile, Chapter Q PEO and the Tammany Pollyanna Club. She was also a devoted member of the Congregational Presbyterian Church where she served as an elder and on the service committee.

Marianne’s life was devoted to her family, friends and faith. Affectionately known as “Tosh” by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, she was a constant source of encouragement — always affirming, positive and loving in her interactions. As her grandchildren often said, “Everyone needs a Tosh.”

Thank you to Elite Home and Hospice and Care Connection. For the past two years, Marianne was under hospice care, lovingly supported by dear friends and caregivers Tanya and Terah, who treated her with compassion, kindness and humor. The family also extends heartfelt thanks to hospice nurses Melissa and Maribeth for guiding them through this journey with care and grace.

Our entire family wishes to especially acknowledge Marianne’s daughters, Mary and Nancy, who cared for Tosh around the clock for the final 19 months of her life. Their devoted care made her final months safe, comfortable and deeply meaningful.

Marianne will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved her. There will be no service as per her request. A reception will be held from 3-6 p.m. Friday, June 5, in the Creek Room at Lindsay Creek Vineyards, 3107 Powers Ave., Lewiston.

The family requests that memorial donations be made to the Congregational Presbyterian Church in Lewiston, the Shriners Travel Fund or to a charity of your choice.
