Marjorie Darlene Nye passed away Saturday, Nov. 12, 2016, at Life Care Center in Lewiston.
Darlene was born the oldest of three daughters to Gordon and Frances Peters on May 14, 1935, in Leland. She attended grade school in Leland until the school consolidated in 1948, when she then attended and graduated from Kendrick High School in 1953. She attended Kinman Business University and graduated as a secretary in 1954.
On Feb. 7, 1957, she married Bobby Hutton. They were later divorced. On Dec. 7, 1964, she married Buzz Nye, and they lived in Kendrick for many years.
Darlene had many accomplishments in her life. One of her accomplishments was working for Carla Emery in 1974 and typing the 700-page "Old Fashioned Recipe Book." Darlene found out later the book was listed in the Guinness Book of Records as the "largest mimeographed volume in general circulation" and was listed as having sold the most copies of a self-published guide: 45,000 mimeographed copies as of 1977.
She and Buzz truly had the time of their life enjoying many adventures. When Buzz passed away in 1982, she went to work as a legal secretary for Jim Siebe in Moscow. Not liking the Moscow weather, she went to work in Lewiston, driving from Kendrick to both positions until she sold her home in Kendrick. Darlene moved to Lewiston in 1984, where she went to work for attorneys Fitzgerald, Sims and Fisher for seven years. For two years after that, she worked for Lee Sims and lastly for her longtime employer and good friend, Earl McGeoghegan until his death in December 2011. She also managed Circle Drive Mobile Home Park, where she lived for many years. She has nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, Tami Sweeney of Clarkston, Debi Middlekoop and husband Dave of Kendrick, Mike Hutton of Lewiston, Cheryl Howerton and husband Duane of Spokane and Jeanette Kasper and husband Jeff of Juliaetta; two sisters, Wanda Mosteller and husband Bob of Salt Lake City, Sandy Henriksen and husband Bob of Troy; and an extended family of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
A service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Malcom's Brower-Wann Funeral Home, 1711 18th St., Lewiston.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Shriners Hospital for Children, Spokane, WA 99204.
