Laxmiprasad H. Joshi, 84, a retired art teacher from India, passed away Friday, Jan. 17, 2014, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center. He had been a resident of Lewiston since 1986, helping his son Rupesh Joshi operate the El Rancho Motel.
He was born July 28, 1929, in Miyagam, India, to Hariprasad and Manglaben Joshi. He married Champaben Joshi in February 1949 at Ghadi, India. He had bachelor and master of arts degrees from the J and J College of Fine Arts, Mumbai, India, in 1954. From 1950 to 1980, he was an art teacher and professional photographer. He moved to Lewiston in 1987, and worked in the family business until his death.
He is survived by his wife, Champaben Joshi; and son Rupesh Joshi, both of Lewiston; son, Narayan Joshi of Richland; daughter Kalyani Bhatt of San Diego, Calif.; and five grandchildren.
An Indian Ritual service will be from 1:30 to 2 p.m. Saturday at Malcom's Brower-Wann Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow.
