Laura May McGalliard, 98, died Friday, Dec. 30, 2016, at Prestige Care at the Orchards. Death was due to complications from a broken hip.

Laura was born June 19, 1918, in Knox City, Mo. Her parents were Ray and Lucille Porter. She spent her childhood in Missouri with her parents and four siblings. After graduating from high school, she moved to California.

In California, she met and married Frederick McGalliard Jr. They had three sons: Frederick McGalliard III, Joseph McGalliard and David McGalliard. Laura was a very capable wife and mother. Her duties were numerous, due in part to being a military wife. She made a good home while her husband served our country during World War II and its aftermath.

Laura lived a long and full life. She attended Santa Ana Junior College and was equipped to take a job at the Southern California Gas Co. In addition to working, she made time for family, friends, church and civic organizations. Travel and gardening were enjoyed, too. People who knew Laura describe her as kind, generous, positive and helpful. She was a light in this world and we appreciate the good experiences and fond memories she worked to give us.

Survivors include her three sons; two daughters-in-law, both named Pat McGalliard; sisters Francis Ballard and Maureta Bunge; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Survivors also include her "family" at the Royal Plaza Retirement Center.

A service celebrating her life will be held at 11 a.m. Jan. 13 at Malcom's Brower-Wann Funeral Home in Lewiston. The Rev. Paul Smith of CrossPoint Alliance Church will be officiating.

Memorials may be sent to CrossPoint Alliance Church, at 1330 Powers Ave., Lewiston.
