Our world lost a wonderful man on Tuesday, July 19, 2016. A husband, father, brother, papa and friend to many, Larry Weeks passed away at home in Lewiston.
Larry began his life Aug. 10, 1947, in Grangeville, and was the middle child of Diane and Robert Weeks. He grew up in the Kooskia area and graduated from Clearwater Valley High School, where he was a star athlete and attracted the attention of a beautiful cheerleader, Dee Anderson. She fell in love with his blue eyes, curly blond hair and gentle soul. They were soon married in 1967, the same year Larry was drafted. He served in the U.S. Navy in Vietnam and Puerto Rico, where his first son, Rob, was born. Larry then attended school in Twin Falls, where they welcomed their second son, Johnny. After moving to Lewiston, their family was completed with the birth of their third son, Jody.
Larry and Dee were devoted to their three boys. He was an excellent father and coach for his son's athletic teams. He taught his boys the values and morals that made them the excellent men and fathers they are today.
Larry worked for 45 years as a refrigeration technician, retiring in 2012 from Mike's Heating and Air Conditioning in Lewiston. He was the top dog in his field. Customers would request Larry and knew he would get the job done. He thrived on helping out others and problem-solving difficult situations.
Throughout Larry's life, he served others. It could be fixing an air conditioner, refrigeration units, building a shop or teaching a grandchild how to bait a hook. He was a patient and loving teacher who took the time to guide others.
Larry's grandkids meant the world to him, and family and friends knew they could rely on his word. A dependable man who sometimes cheated at cards, Larry had a way to make people feel at ease. He could also scare the crap out of you, if needed, and always found a way to get his meaning across.
His interests included fishing, camping, hunting (anything you could eat), playing softball, four-wheeling, shooting trap and playing cards. One thing you could depend on was that Larry would bring home the bacon, turkey, deer, elk, bass, etc. He made many friends along the way and enjoyed the time he spent with everyone.
A true joy to Larry was spending time with his grandchildren, Allison, Kylie, Steven, Daniel, Casey, Lanie, Jaclyn and Colby; and his great-granddaughter, Cadence. Every single one meant the world to him. He guided them in the ways only a true, loving papa can.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert (Carolyn) Weeks, Diane (Dan) Elkins; and brother Steven R. Weeks.
He is survived by his wife, Dee; sons Rob (Nikki) of Pullman, Johnny (Velvet) of Lewiston and Jody (Jaimie) of Clarkston; and his sister, Dawna Mae (Jerry) Glenn of Yakima. He is also survived by his grandchildren, great-grandchild, numerous nieces, nephews and in-laws.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Malcom's Brower-Wann Funeral Home located at 1711 18th St. in Lewiston, with a reception to follow at the Guardian Angel Homes barn, 2221 Vineyard Ave., Lewiston.
