Judyth Brown

Judyth Brown

5/10/1953 — 12/15/2014

Our beloved wife, mother, sister and grandmother, Judyth M. Brown, passed away Monday, Dec. 15, 2014, at home, following a courageous battle with breast cancer.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Peggy Buswell, and her father, Harley Porter.

She is survived by her husband, Harold W. Brown of Juliaetta; her children, Tim and Paula Young of Portland, Ore., John and Raeann Foster of Dillon, Mont., Justin Cope, Micah and Michelle Cope, and Peggy Brown of Juliaetta, Billy and Sharon Brown of Orofino; and her sisters, Janelle Porter, Michelle Beavers and Heidi Porter of Juliaetta; brother Jim and Toni Porter of Kendrick; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Judy was born May 10, 1953, in Clarkston. She attended grade school in Juliaetta and graduated from Kendrick High School in 1971. She married Fred L. Cope of Juliaetta in 1973 and they divorced in 1978. She married Harold W. Brown in 1980 in Reno, Nev.

One of mom's first jobs after graduating high school was at O-Mark. In the late '70s, she drove a longhaul tractor-trailer from Spokane to Long Beach, Calif., and Minneapolis. From 1980 to 1985, she managed the Bottoms Up Tavern in Juliaetta. After 1985, Judy worked for the Lewiston Morning Tribune delivering papers to Troy, Deary and Bovill. She drove through snow and ice in the winter, seven days a week, but always got the job done. She started college to pursue her dream of becoming a nurse, and in 1992 she finished her nursing degree at Walla Walla Community College.

She worked at Needles Hospital in Needles, Calif., for 16 years. She was the emergency room manager, house supervisor, medical-surgical manager and chief nursing officer during her time there. Her most recent job was at Blythe Hospital, in Blythe, Calif., as house supervisor.

Our mother really enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and family. There were many trips to Freeman Creek, Red River Hot Springs, Three Rivers campground and just about any place where you could swim. She loved having family and friends visit in Arizona to play in the swimming pool, eat at the casinos and visit Route 66. One of her favorite musicians was Dwight Yoakam, and she went to several of his concerts. Mom discovered her passion for the desert on vacation trips to Laughlin, Nev., and she and Bill moved to Bullhead City, Ariz., in 1994 from Juliaetta. There were thousands of road and air miles logged back and forth between Arizona and the Northwest. I think that being on the road was just as fun for her as getting to the actual destination. Mom was able to travel extensively throughout the Southwest, from Alaska to Hawaii, and even made it to the pyramid at Chichen Itza, Mexico. She was always ready for the next adventure.

In her own words, mom said that she lived a wonderful life. She was a great example for us to follow and was very supportive of her children to follow their dreams. She was also often the life of the party. We are heartbroken that she had to go, but know that she will be welcomed and loved in heaven.

There will be a viewing at Malcom's Brower-Wann Funeral Home from 5 to 7 p.m. today, with a private family graveside service at 2:30 p.m. Friday. A public wake will begin at 5 p.m. at the Bottoms Up Tavern in Juliaetta. Memorial donations may be sent to the J-K Ambulance fund at P.O. Box 182, Kendrick, ID 83837.
