Joyce L. Hines went to her eternal rest at the age of 84 on Thursday, Sept. 3, 2015, at her Lewiston home.
Joyce was born Sept. 21, 1930, in Lewiston, to Cloyd and Lola (Herin) Smith. She grew up in Clarkston, graduating from Clarkston High School in 1948. While Joyce was working in the warehouse at Potlatch Forests Inc., she met Don R. Hines. The two would marry on Aug. 13, 1949, in Clarkston, and spend almost 52 years together until his death in 2001. Don was in the U.S. Air Force, and so she traveled with him to Albuquerque, N.M.; Biloxi, Miss.; Vacaville, Calif.; and Mountain Home, Idaho, where her first child, Annette, was born. The couple came back to Lewiston for a time before moving to Southwick to farm for seven years. Eventually, she moved to Waha and then to Lewiston, where she made her home for the past two years.
Joyce is survived by her children, Annette (David) Betts and Carol (Randy) Fred; grandchildren Chris (Laura) Hines, Robert Hines, Jessica Lynch, Vicky (Mark) Derksen, Aaron (Sharleen) Betts, Nathan (Amy) Betts, Amber (Carl) Neely, Craig Fred and Derek Fred; and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Don; and son Alan D. Hines.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Lewis-Clark Memorial Gardens.
