John Darrell Davis, 87, of Kamiah, passed away Saturday July 18, 2026, at Life Care Center in Lewiston.
John was born Oct. 23, 1938, in Lewiston, to Charlie and Edith Davis. John’s grandfather, Thomas Davis, came from Redfield, Iowa, in 1905 and settled in the Kamiah Valley. John was raised in Harrisburg with his sister, Karon. He attended a country school in Woodland and often rode to school by horseback. He then attended Kamiah High School before joining the U.S. Navy in 1955 at the age of 17. He traveled all over the world while in the Navy.
In 1962, he married Dixie Squires. They had three children, Carrie, Michael and Corina. They later divorced and he married Virgina Earl in 1995. John worked in the logging industry for most of his life. He retired from Potlatch Corp. in 2000. He then was able to enjoy his love of raising Black Angus cattle and riding his horse, Max. In 2018, he had a stroke. He then was unable to continue farming. He and Virginia enjoyed living on their ranch in Kamiah until 2023.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Tom. He is survived by his wife Virginia, sister, Karon Schlieper (Larry), his children Carrie Bain (George), of Kamiah, Mike Davis (Jeff), of Palm Springs, Calif., and Corina Lammerding (Ed), of Clarkston and stepdaughter Bobbi Jo Spring, of Lewiston. He had nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
A service will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 1, at Kamiah Community Presbyterian Church, 620 Seventh St., Kamiah.
