Jean L. Rudolph, 87, of Lewiston, passed away Thursday, June 29, 2017, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Lewiston.
Jean was born May 11, 1930, in Winchester, to Harold and Mildred Miller. She grew up on her family farm in the Westlake/Forest area at the four corners, and she attended Pine Grove School. She married Bud Rudolph on April 2, 1953, and moved to his family's homestead at Eagle Creek, where they ran cattle from Eagle Creek to Deer Creek. They later moved out of the river to Forest. She and Bud owned and operated the Pine Club in Winchester for a few years.
Jean spent many years at home as a rancher's wife and raising six kids. In later years, after they moved to Tom Beall, she worked as a waitress and cook at several different restaurants in Lewiston. She also ran the D.D., which is now Donalds Cafe in Lapwai, for a few years.
Jean enjoyed so many things in life - traveling, baking, gardening, canning and getting together with family - but her grandkids were one of her biggest joys in life. She always tried to make it to every sporting event, dance recital, rodeo and to watch them show their animal at the fair. Whatever the grandkids had going on, she was usually there to cheer them on or give them a little advice. She loved to sit and tell them stories of "the good old days" and all the adventures she had throughout her life. Right up to just a few hours before her passing, she was asking one of the kids if they had their steer halter broke yet and ready for the fair yet and if any of the grandkids were riding in Winchester Rodeo this year.
Jean always looked at life as if the glass was half full, never half empty. Her door was always open to whoever stopped by to visit or needed a place to stay the night, and you never left without a warm meal or at least a piece of pie, cake or a handful of homemade cookies.
Jean is survived by her six kids, Mike (Patty) Rudolph of Ellensburg, Wash., Buddy Rudolph of Puyallup, Wash., Ada Olsen of Lewiston, Carolyn (Monte) Thomason of Craigmont, Byron (Lisa) Rudolph of Lapwai, and Dawn Rudolph of Craigmont; 22 grandkids; 29 great-grandkids; and two great-great-grandkids, with one more due to arrive this month; her brother, Stan Miller of Craigmont; and her sister, Cora Lunders of Ruebens. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bud Rudolph; parents Harold and Mildred Miller; a sister, June Miller; and a brother, Cliff Miller.
Cremation has taken place. There will be a service for Jean at 11 a.m. July 15 at the Tammany View Baptist Church, 3732 20th St., Lewiston, with a covered-dish dinner to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Northwest Children's Home.
