On Friday, July 12, 2019, Jay Edward Stroupe, of Lewiston, passed away in his home after a battle with cancer.
Jay was born in Connelly Springs, N.C., to Ernest and Lila (Moses) Stroupe. He was one of six children.
After moving to Pennsylvania at the age of 12, he later met and married his high school sweetheart, Evelyn Speer, of Beaver County, Pa. They were married Sept. 18, 1948, and enjoyed more than 70 years together.
Jay spent many years as an ironworker for American Bridge, taking Jay and Evelyn to many job sites throughout the United States. Later, he started Skyline Sash, in the Pittsburgh area, which he later sold to family before moving to Canada to attend Briercrest Bible School. Upon graduation, he pastored the Baptist church in Killarney, Manitoba, for two years and then, just before retirement, a Baptist church in Brandon, Manitoba. For 20 years, Jay farmed in the Killarney, Manitoba, area, fulfilling his lifelong dream. He was a man who loved the land and the outdoors. Jay was an entrepreneur, hunter, fisherman, golfer and loved gardening during his retirement years.
Jay was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Lila Stroupe; his sisters, Doris Early and Lena Taylor; his brother, Richard Stroupe; and his daughter, Pamela Hampton.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn, of Lewiston; his brother, Bill Stroupe, of Freedom, Pa.; and his sister, Betty Crumbly, of Orlando, Fla. He is also survived by his children, (Steve) Hampton, Ronald (Penny) Stroupe, of Mocksville, N.C., Kerry (Laura) Stroupe, of Long Beach, Wash., Sharon (Waldie) Neufeld, of Sexsmith, Alberta, Canada, and John (Linda) Stroupe, of Lewiston. Jay had 15 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 2200 11th Ave., Lewiston.
