Jane Marie Harvey passed away at home on Friday, Oct. 7, 2016. She was 66.
She was born on Dec. 18, 1949, in Clarkston to Doris Palmer and Floyd Harvey. She grew up in Lewiston and graduated from Lewiston High School. She went on to receive her Bachelor and Master in Education degrees from the University of Idaho.
Jane married Thomas Spofford in 1970. Together, they have two daughters, Amy and Cory. They divorced in 1977.
Jane taught special education at Madras High School in Madras, Ore., for 12 years, moving back to Idaho in 1997.
Jane was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) when she was 47 years old. It progressed very quickly, but she never let it slow her down. She was very active in fighting for the accessibility rights of people with disabilities and believed that you just can't know how inaccessible places and things are until you've sat in that wheelchair seat. She attended school board meetings in Clarkston and city council meetings in Lewiston to stress the importance of making sidewalks, sporting events, and other activities available to all. Those who really knew her were amazed at the strength and grace that she faced MS with and how independent she was.
She was also a member of the Lewiston First United Methodist Church and attended a number of other groups until her new illness, liver cancer, made it not possible. Some of these groups were the Tuesday Quilters - a branch of the Seaport Quilters group - the book club at the YMCA and Women Investing Together.
Jane is survived by her mother, Doris Olin; daughters Amy Kaizerman and Cory Singleton; grandchildren Amanda Singleton, Samuel and Sarah Kaizerman; and great-grandson Jonathan Palmer. She was preceded in death by her father, Floyd Harvey, and brother, Douglas Harvey.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Lewiston First United Methodist Church, 1906 Broadview Drive, Lewiston and will be officiated by the Rev. Chuck Cram.
Jane loved flowers, and any floral donations will be donated out to local charities after the service.
Malcom's Brower-Wann Funeral Home has been assisting the family. Please sign online guest book at www.malcomsfuneralhome.com.

Doris, I was deeply saddened to hear about Jane. I have such great memories of her-and all your family from our growing up days when you lived across the street and from the time when Jane lived just across the fence in Pocatello. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Amy, Cory and Janie's Mom, I am sad to learn of Jane's death. Janie became a part of a foursome of women all there to help each other after a divorce.
We always knew we could count on each other in need. Janie was such a kind energetic young women that should of not gotten MS. It should of been me I am the couch potato. The four women were starting with the oldest...........................

We were a silly group of women who made my transition to being a single Mom better. If I can't get to the Memorial it's because of my inability to leave my home the effect of my Panic Attacks. I will be there with lots of prayers for all of you. Love Gerry

Doris, very sorry that Jane left us so young. She was always fun in the book club and got us to read books we'd never have read otherwise. (Hunger Games, for one.) I'll miss her.

I was so sorry to hear about Jane. I was a friend of hers when we live in McCoy hall our freshman year. I lost track of her and often wondered what she was doing. She was a very nice person.
