Guy Fairbrother

7/7/1929 — 11/23/2014

Guy Robert (Bob/Doc) Fairbrother, 85 years young, of McCall/Lewiston, went home to his Lord on Sunday, Nov. 23, 2014, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Lewiston, following a battle with cancer and a stroke. Bob was born July 7, 1929, at the family ranch at Norwood near McCall, to Guy and Gladys Fairbrother.

He attended Long Valley elementary schools in McCall and in Country School District No. 58, high school at Donnelly High School, and graduated his senior year from Nampa High School in 1947. He grew up on the family ranch tending livestock, milking cows, irrigating and farming with horses. In eighth grade, he was employed by Lake Irrigation District as a rivermaster on Lake Fork and Boulder Creeks for six years. He attended the University of Idaho and received his doctor of veterinary medicine from Washington State College in 1955. He married his wife of 55 years, Mildred Simpson, on Nov. 23, 1951, in the Presbyterian Church in Parma, Idaho. He practiced veterinary medicine in southern Idaho mainly out of Burley and Bellevue, Idaho, retiring in his 45th year of practice. They raised their family of four in Burley: twin daughters, Connie and Carmen, and sons, Steve and Robert. Mildred preceded him in death on July 20, 2006.

On Jan. 13, 2007, Bob married Wanda Peck Duel in Our Savior Lutheran Church in McCall. They made their home in McCall and Lewiston.

Bob was an avid outdoorsman, talented wood artist and historical author. He published "Early Barns and Families" (Long Valley County, Idaho) in 2014, an unpublished history of the Lake Irrigation District, and family histories. Bob participated in building projects on three different churches.

He is survived by his wife, Wanda of McCall; his sister, Bernice (Maurice) Green of Tulare, Calif.; daughters Connie Herbert (Ron Quesnell) and Carmen (Tim) Sidlaruk, both of Burley; sons Steve of Hailey, Idaho, and Robert (Susie) of Jerome, Idaho; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He is also survived by Wanda's daughters, Thais (David) Shapiro of Denver, Thera (Mike) Follett of Lewiston and Lane Duel of Tulsa, Okla.; and their five children.

The memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Our Savior Lutheran Church, located at 100 N. Mission St. in McCall. The family requests that any donations be made to Our Saviour Lutheran Church in McCall.
