Golan C. Calvert, 86, of Lewiston, died Thursday, Aug. 28, 2014, in Lewiston.
He was born Sept. 2, 1927, to George F. and Mable (Hoskins) Calvert in Clarkston. He grew up in Lenore, graduating from Lapwai High school in 1945.
He joined the U.S. Army Air Forces and served in the Caribbean with the 9th Weather Squadron from 1945 to 1947. He returned home and attended Lewis-Clark Normal School.
He married Evelyn Elizabeth Cook on Nov. 5, 1950. Golan and Evelyn raised their family in Spokane, where he first worked with Kaiser Aluminum, then with Hughes Aircraft, traveling to Montana, Alaska and southern Idaho to work in the defense department of Hughes Aircraft. In 1969, he and his family returned to Lewiston, where they opened a restaurant to share Evelyn's excellent meals. He started working for the city of Lewiston water treatment plant in 1972, retiring in 1992.
Golan is survived by his son, Terry, and daughter Janice, both of Lewiston; granddaughter Alicia Nicole of Edmonton, Alberta; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and a brother.
Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at the Normal Hill Cemetery. The family suggests memorial donations be made to the Salvation Army.
