George W. "Jeddy" Smith of Lewiston passed away Saturday, June 11, 2016, at his Lewiston home of heart and kidney failure. He was 77.
Jeddy was born Aug. 3, 1938, in Spirit Lake, Idaho, to Raymond W. and Opha M. (Byers) Smith. He spent much of his early years with his uncle and aunt, Frank and Etta Byers, on Randall Flat outside of Troy.
He married Janice A. Croson on Nov. 30, 1956, in Coeur d'Alene. They remained on the family farm until 1968. During those years, he worked at farming, logging and at the sawmill and brick plant at Troy.
George worked at Hahn Supply in Lewiston from 1968 until 1973, when he was sidelined by the first of his heart surgeries.
Janice died on Oct. 25, 1990. He spent the following years helping out his sons and daughter when he could at their businesses.
He enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, most people and some dogs.
He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Connie M. Wittman; infant son, Dale; both parents; sister Cleo; and brothers Bill, Burt, Jack and Jim.
George is survived by sons William Roger Smith of Post Falls, Idaho, and R.G. Jake Smith of Lewiston; five grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and five stepgreat-grandchildren.
There will be a graveside service at 10 a.m. Saturday at Beulah Cemetery outside of Troy.
