George H. Follett, of Lewiston, passed away Saturday, June 29, 2024. He was 95 years old.
George was born April 11, 1929, in Lewiston, to loving parents Ruth and Mahlon Follett. He was raised in Genesee with his older sister Dorothy Brown, all of whom preceded him in death.
In his younger years, George enjoyed playing basketball, golf, bowling and snow skiing in McCall. He was an avid reader and kept current on local and world events. Traveling with his family was a favorite activity, especially vacationing on the Oregon Coast. He visited every state in the U.S. numerous times.
After graduating from Genesee High School with 16 classmates, George attended the University of Idaho, joined the Phi Delta Kappa fraternity, and graduated with a business degree in 1950.
George joined the U.S. Air Force as a second lieutenant during the Korean War and served on active duty from 1950-1956. He returned to the Air Force as a major and taught flight training school from 1956-1966.
George married Nancy C. Johnson in Genesee on June 23, 1951. They enjoyed 69 years of marriage before her passing in May of 2020. They are again enjoying each other’s company in Heaven.
eorge worked in the furniture business and opened Follett’s Furniture in 1982. He was a member of the Lewiston Chamber of Commerce, served several terms as director, and chairman of the Merchants Committee. He was a member of the Lewiston Rotary Club serving as president for one term (1970-1971). George was a founding member of Lewiston’s Clearwater Investors Club, and he remained an active member from 1956-2024.
George was a member of the Genesee Masons, and Calam Shriners for over 60 years, serving as potentate in 1972 and recorder from 1976-2016. He was a Shrine Imperial Representative for 40 years, obtaining emeritus status in 1991. He was also on the Shrine Imperial Standing Committee for 35 years, serving as a past chairman. He remained an active member of the Shrine until his passing.
George is survived by his three children: Mike (Thera) Follett, Barb Follett and Greg (Eleanore) Follett; grandchildren: Kimberley (Andy) Tuschhoff, Dana Eberhard, Reny Follett, Emerson Follett and Alexander Follett; great-grandchildren: Kaiden Eberhard and Jameson Follett.
Following George’s wishes, a family graveside service will be held at a later date.
The family suggests memorials be sent to Shriners Hospitals for Children.
