Gayle "Jack" Jacks died Dec. 12, 2017, at the Idaho State Veterans Home in Lewiston.
He was born to James and Florence Jacks in Moscow on May 7, 1941. He joined the U.S. Navy at age 17, serving 30 years before retiring in Craigmont. Jack was a Vietnam veteran. He married Donna Strauch and they had a daughter and son in Yokohama, Japan.
Jack is survived by his wife, Lynne; daughter Deb (Bud) Couchman; son Mike (Wanda) Jacks; stepson Mark Kunkle; brother James (Yohanna) Jacks; and sister Phyliss (Jim) Marker. He leaves an extended family of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom he loved.
Jack was a gifted mechanic with a passion for antique cars. He enjoyed Texas hold 'em, building race cars and renovating the old Craigmont Pharmacy with Lynne.
With deep gratitude to the Lewiston Veterans Home and hospital staff, you all are quite exceptional. To all who visited him, he knew you were there, and your caring comforted in spite of his colorful vocabulary.
Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. June 22 at the Craigmont Cemetery. A luncheon will be held following the service from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Craig Mountain Senior Center, 413 Nezperce Ave., Winchester.
